Itinerary

Day 1 :

This is your arrival day in Kathmandu. You will be welcomed by a STN representative, who will pick you
up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After you settled and got refreshed, we will have some
time together to chat and to show you around your hotel. The rest of the day you can enjoy on your own
and relax from travelling.

Day 2 :

After your breakfast we will meet at your hotel to talk about your trip. We will introduce you to the route
and the logistics. You will also meet your guide, who will be you company for the upcoming days. If you
desire, we will jointly check your equipment. If something is missing, you will have the opportunity to get it for a reasonable price. You may use the afternoon for your own convenience. Optional we can offer a
guided sightseeing.

Day 3 :

On day 3 we will get up early, having a good breakfast, grab our stuff and departure to Pokhara.
Depending on your preferences and your budget, the transfer will be done via bus or plane. If you choose
the plane, you will arrive at Pokhara approximately 1,5 hours later. After you checked-in to your hotel, you
will have the afternoon to sneak around in Pokhara. If you choose to go by bus, be prepared for an 8-hour ride, that is an adventure on its own. You will benefit from stunning views at nature and Nepali life during your transfer. We will have a few toilet-breaks as well as breaks for a 2 nd breakfast and lunch. Your bus will be air-conditioned, mineral water is provided free of charge. After your arrival you will check-in to your hotel and will have some time for dinner and a nice evening walk at the shores of Lake Phewa. No matter which option you chose: You will be picked up by your guide at the airport or the bus station, who will already have all your permissions handy and will transfer you to your hotel.

Day 4 :

Today’s the day: Your trek starts. After a good breakfast we will be picked up by a taxi or private driver,
who will transfer us to Nayapul, the trailhead of our hike. From now, your guide will be always at your side
to support you and to take care of you. The transfer will take 2 to 3 hours, depending on the road traffic.
While we are driving you will be given a first glimpse at majestic Himalayan giants like Annapurna South
and Machhapuchhre – the fish tail mountain. Arrived at Nayapul, we will sort our stuff, shouldering our
backpacks and slowly take our fist steps. Today we will trek to Tikhedhunga, an easy 4 hour hike. On the
way you will get stunning views of lush green forests, gushing rivers and traditional Nepalese farming.
Half the way we will have time to relax and to enjoy our lunch at a tea house. At the end of the day, you
have managed a distance of approximately 12 kilometers and will love a hot shower before we have our
dinner.

Day 5 :

After a refreshing night we will get up early and having our breakfast. We will pack our stuff and prepare
for the hike. Today will be an amazing day. Right after Tikhedhunga we will start with a demanding ascent,
where we will climb about 500 meters of height, using more than 3200 stairs. We might have a tea break
at Ulleri, before we continue our hike through lush green jungle. The remaining trek will be ascending, but
not demanding anymore. More or less half the way we will have our lunch. Energized we continue our
hike and will reach Ghorepani in the afternoon. At the end of the day you managed a distance of about 16 km and an ascend of about 1400 m of height. You definitely deserved your hot shower and a good dinner. This night you will reside at a height of about 2800 m above sea level. We will go to sleep early, as the night will be short.

Day 6 :

We get up early and prepare for a morning hike. At 4:30 we start our ascent to Poon Hill. You will need
warm clothing, as the morning might be freezing cold. Bring some snacks like power bars or Muesli bars
to get energized, as we will have no breakfast before we leave. Right before sunrise we arrive on top of
Pooh Hill at 3210 m above sea level. You will have enough time to prepare your cameras for this stunning
experience. From up here you will have an amazing view of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Annapurna South,
Machhapuchhre, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Tukuche Peak, Dhampus peak, Hiunchuli,
Gurja Himal and Nilgiri Himal. The view is breathtaking, especially once the mouintains are lit by the rising
sun. You will have enough time to walk around here and also to grab a cup of tea or other hot beverages
that are sold here. After our return to the lodge, we will have a good and relaxed breakfast, before we
grab our stuff and leave for today’s trek.
Like yesterday we continue our trip through forest. Going up and down we pass waterfalls, old trees and
hills with beautiful views. Today we will manage again a distance of about 16 km, but not as demanding
as yesterday. As always, we will have our lunch on the way to relax and to re-energize. In the afternoon
we will arrive at Tadapani where you will be amazed, how close we came to Annapurna-South, Hiunchuli
and Machhapuchhre. You can enjoy a hot shower before we will have our dinner.
Remark: If we could not make it to Poon Hill, due to bad weather conditions, we will stay for another night
in Ghorepani and will have another try the next morning.

Day 7 :

Today our journey continues. We will leave Tadapani after breakfast and head towards Chomrong. We will
follow a less touristic route, as most of the trekkers will directly go to Ghandruk. We use a little side-trek
as we would do, if we would hike to Annapurna Base Camp (we also offer this trek and can provide you
with an itinerary) Compared to the last two days, our hike today is more relaxing. We will manage a
distance of about 13 km and will have a lot of stunning views on the way. Of course, we will have a good
lunch half-way. Early in the afternoon we will arrive at Chomrong, where you will realize that we again got
much closer to Annapurna-South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre. Especially Annapurna-South seems as
close as you can touch it. This afternoon you will have time to sneak around in Chomrong and to enjoy
the beautiful views at the surrounding mountains, before we have our dinner.

Day 8 :

Today we say goodbye to the close mountains and head towards Ghandruk. After having our breakfast,
we follow uncountable stairs down to Kyumrung Khola river. After we managed the stairs and descended
about 700 m of height, we arrive at a long suspension brigde. We’ll crossing the bridge and starting
another ascend on the other side. In the afternoon we will reach our destination for today: Ghandruk. You
managed a distance of about 10 km and a total of about 1400 metres of height today. The village is a
great place with lots of old Gurung houses set in front of the mountains we learned to love over the last
couple of days. Be sure to take lots of photos. The day closes with a good dinner.

Day 9 :

This is the last day of our trek. After a good breakfast, we pack our stuff the last time and shoulder our
backpacks. The day today leads us back to Nayapul. On our way we descend to the Modi Khola river and
follow it from now on. Half the way we will have our lunch again, so that we can manage the last stretch of the day totally energized. From now there’s no further ascend for us. In the afternoon we’ll arrive at
Nayapul, where our taxi already awaits us to bring us back to Pohkara. Today we hiked about 12 km.
Back in Pokhara you will check in again to your hotel. In the evening we will have our last dinner and a
drink together and will indulge in the memories of the past days.

Day 10 :

If we managed Poon Hill at first try, this day will be your day off in Pokhara. Optional we can provide you
with a sight-seeing package. If the weather at Poon Hill was not at our favor, this is our last hiking day
(see Day 9)

Day 11 :

This is our final farewell. After the breakfast, you will leave to hotel and will be transferred either to the
airport or to the bus station. Your guide and friend will ensure, that you make it to the plane or the bus.
Once back in Kathmandu, we will pick you up and get you to your hotel, where you can use the rest of the
day to sort your things or for having dinner.

Day 12 :

After your breakfast (depending on your flight schedule) a STN representative will transfer you to the
airport and say goodbye. You will leave Nepal with your heart full of memories and the desire to return
soon. Of course, we can offer additional activities and treks if you desire to stay longer. Let’s have a chat and design your personal package to make your stay in Nepal unique and memorable.

Important to know

What equipment is required for the trip

The trek to Poon Hill requires no special equipment. But you will need the following stuff:

  • A pair of good trekking pants (breathable, yet wind proof – ideally zip-off for the first days of your trek)
  • Cotton or Merino underwear (quantity depends on your own preferences)
  • Cotton or Merino base layer shirt, short (2x)
  • Long arm fleece jacket or hoody (1x)
  • Long underpants (for the summit morning)
  • Trekking jacket breathable with membrane, wind proof (1x – should be capable of managing a rain shower)
  • Shell rain jacket or poncho
  • A comfortable pair of hiking boots, that go over the ankle (Cat B/C shoes, waterproof and well run in)
  • Comfortable hiking socks, with good foot support and good cushioning (2x)
  • A warm hat, buff or scarf and a pair of warm gloves
  • Sleeping gear
  • Optional but recommended: Sleeping bag (comfort zone up to 0 degree) (In general blankets are provided by the lodges)
  • Toiletry and hygiene items
  • Sunglasses and sun protection (protection factor 50+)
  • Mobile phone, camera, charger and power bank
  • A light backpack that can manage all your belongings

Are there any special requirements to my physical constitution for this trek?

Even if the Poon Hill trek is not technically challenging, you should be in rather fit condition. You should be able to manage long distance hiking on multiple days in a row carrying a mid-heavy backpack. Means walks of approximately 5 to 6 hours a day. Also you should be able to manage climbing stairs without being excessively out of breath. As preparation for your trek you will need to regularly walk long distances with a backpack (ideally with the stuff, you will carry during your trek plus one or two liter of water). Use a trek for practicing where you will also need to go up and down-hill. In addition you can train walking stairs up and down to get used to the movements and the efforts. But in general, you don’t have to be an athlete to finish the trek.

When is the best time for this trek?

The best time for this trek is from March to May and from September to November. From end of May until end of August is main Monsoon time in Nepal. During this time, it is not recommended to do this trek. We can also offer a Winter package for the time between end of November and end of February. Please talk to us, as this comes with extra cost for special arrangements (not all lodges are open during Winter). Also you will require a different setup of equipment.
